100km south of Hanoi, Ninh Binh is a must to explore with a number of places of rustic charm. Travel to the Van Long wetland, a nature reserve of 2,643 hectares where visitors can take traditional bamboo sampans meandering silently through the labyrinthine rock formations to view mountain scenery. Even a few Delacour langurs, a critically endangered species of primate, can be found if they are lucky enough. Then the trip continues to Kenh Ga Village on the banks of the Hoang Long River, offering incredible views of fishermen at work, houseboats or houses clinging to cliffs, children going to school, and everyday life along the riverfront.
